SAN ANTONIO – Club Morgan, a new opportunity for individuals of all abilities age 16 and older to make friends and have fun, will host a Zumba dance party from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 2, at Morgan’s Wonderland Sports complex, 5025 David Edwards Drive, adjacent to NEISD’s Heroes Stadium.
“Club Morgan is a group-based program in which members can enjoy social, recreational and inclusive fun,” said Sharon Newhardt, Morgan’s Inclusion Initiative program director. “Members will form friendships while participating in creative arts, cultural activities, sports and outdoor recreation.”
The club, which meets the first Saturday of every month from March through December, is free to all participants. Meetings will rotate among locations such as unique Morgan’s Wonderland theme park, award-winning Morgan’s Inspiration Island splash park, new Morgan’s Wonderland Camp and possibly some city parks. In addition to the Zumba dance party, Club Morgan will offer activities such as catch-and-release fishing, coding clinics, karaoke, inclusive swimming and pumpkin painting, to name a few.
Individuals wanting to join Club Morgan can do so at https://MorgansWonderland.com/Club-Morgan/. Or, they can call (210) 495-5888 for information and registration.
“We recognized there is a need for inclusive programming for older teens and young adults,” said Brooke Matula, sports and recreational therapy director at Morgan’s Wonderland Sports. “Once individuals turn 18, there aren’t a lot of social opportunities for those with and without special needs. Club Morgan is designed to fill that gap.”
Club Morgan and Morgan’s Wonderland Sports are part of Morgan’s Inclusion Initiative, the nonprofit, umbrella organization that coordinates planning, fundraising and communications among the Morgan’s Wonderland “family” of ventures designed with those with special needs in mind and built for everyone’s enjoyment. Other endeavors include Morgan’s Inspiration Island; Morgan’s Wonderland Sports; Morgan’s Wonderland Camp, which offers a summer-camp-type experience year-round; and projects in progress such as the Multi-Assistance Center at Morgan’s Wonderland, or The MAC.
