Wondersquad and Elves at Wonderland Christmas

SAN ANTONIO – Unique, ultra-accessible™ Morgan’s Wonderland will become a winter wonderland of special holiday entertainment, new events, thousands of shimmering lights and festive decorations during “A Wonderland Christmas” on nine select evenings beginning Friday, Nov. 29, and concluding Monday, Dec. 23.

The colorful potpourri that includes shows, strolling entertainers and holiday traditions will be presented from 4 to 9 p.m. on Nov.  29 and 30, and on Dec. 7, 14, 15, 20, 21, 22 and 23 at the world’s first theme park designed with special-needs individuals in mind and built for everyone’s enjoyment.

Morgan’s Wonderland also will be open during daylight hours Nov. 29 and Nov. 30 (1-4 p.m.); Dec. 1 (11 a.m.-4 p.m.) Dec. 6 (10 a.m.-2 p.m.); and Dec. 13 (10 a.m.-2 p.m.).

Special events this season will include a Christmas-tree-lighting ceremony at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29, with Morgan Hartman, namesake of Morgan’s Wonderland; a Shakespeare in Wonderland show (“Much Ado About Nothing”) at 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 14 and 15, as well as Friday and Saturday, Dec. 20 and 21; a Hanukkah at Morgan’s Wonderland celebration at 6:15 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, with Jewish Congregation Agudas Achim; and the Snowball 5K/1K Run, Walk, Roll or Stroll at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21.

Proceeds from the latter will enable non-profit Morgan’s Wonderland to continue admitting anyone and everyone with a special need free of charge.  Each person who registers will receive a voucher for free admission to A Wonderland Christmas on either Dec. 21, 22 or 23.  Complete details about how to register for the Snowball Run, Walk, Roll or Stroll can be found at www.MorgansWonderland.com/snowball/.

In addition to the park’s regular attractions and wheelchair-accessible rides, A Wonderland Christmas will offer a tree-lighting ceremony each evening, visits with Santa Claus, a petting zoo, complimentary cookies and hot chocolate, Christmas caricatures and skating on a simulated ice rink.  Pictures with Santa will be taken from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. for a nominal charge.

Special entertainment and shows will vary each evening during A Wonderland Christmas, but there will be something for everyone, said Ron Morander, Morgan’s Wonderland chief operating officer.  “We’re delighted that our Inclusion Fusion Show Choir – made up of those with and without special needs – will kick things off as our Christmas carolers on opening night, Nov 29,” he added.

Strolling entertainers will include the Wonder Squad, four Morgan’s Wonderland super heroes who turn their disabilities into super abilities; butterfly mascot Joy and her crew; juggling elves; magicians; and puppeteers.

“Dashing Through the Park” will spotlight non-profit organizations that decorate and display miniature sleighs and 7-foot-tall Christmas trees throughout the park.  Representatives of those groups will be on hand from time to time to tell guests about the specific services those groups offer.

“For families wanting to be immersed in the Christmas spirit, A Wonderland Christmas is definitely the place to be,” Morander said.  “Morgan’s Wonderland is a truly beautiful place, and it takes on a special ambiance at night for special celebrations such as A Wonderland Christmas.  Because it’s so colorful and lively, our guests take lots and lots of pictures to share with family and friends.”

Regular Morgan’s Wonderland admission prices will be applicable throughout A Wonderland Christmas, and as always, those with special needs and children age 2 and younger will be admitted free of charge.  The latest information about hours of operation and admissions is available at www.MorgansWonderland.com or at (210) 495-5888.

The final presentation of A Wonderland Christmas on Dec. 23 will mark the end of the 2019 season at Morgan’s Wonderland.  The park’s 10th birthday celebration next April will be among highlights of the 2020 season that will begin Friday, Feb. 28.

Morgan’s Wonderland is located in Northeast San Antonio at 5223 David Edwards Drive, a half-mile west of IH 35 at the intersection of Wurzbach Parkway and Thousand Oaks Drive.
