Local NFL alumni charity backed by Amazon to host golf classic to benefit individuals with disabilities

LOCAL NFL ALUMNI CHARITY BACKED BY AMAZON TO HOST GOLF CLASSIC TO BENEFIT INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES

THE NFL ALUMNI ORGANIZATION AND LUXURY HOME MAGAZINE HAVE ORGANIZED THE EVENT TO BENEFIT CHILDREN IN SOUTH TEXAS.

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (December 12th, 2022) – A Golf Classic with a dream to help individuals with disabilities is getting a major boost from Amazon, and supporters will also enjoy the chance to play on a PGA-level course with former NFL stars. It’s all set to kick off in April 2023, and Amazon announced at a press conference today their sponsorship donation to support the Morgan’s Inclusion Initiative.

“People with disabilities have benefited immensely from Morgan’s Inclusion Initiative, but as we all know there is still work to be done,” says board member Juli Henderson. The funds raised will be presented on behalf of her late son, Robert, who passed away from a rare mitochondrial seizure disorder. “When I learned that Amazon was stepping up to support our efforts in such a big way, it meant the world.”

Partnering to host the event on the famed Tournament Players Club (TPC) Oaks course, operated by the PGA Tour, is Luxury Home Magazine and the NFL Alumni. “We began this project as a dream to help kids, and it’s been humbling to see the community support,” says the magazine’s publisher, Tomas Martinez. Participants in the tournament will raise financial support for the NFL Alumni Charity, Caring For Kids and Morgan’s Inclusion Initiative by playing on a team or various other sponsorship opportunities.

NFL Alumni Chapter President Johnny “Sky” Walker says former NFL stars are up for the challenge. “Any time we can engage in a little friendly competition while also raising money for a good cause, we’re all in,” he says. “This Golf Classic is on one of the most famous courses in the country, but the good it will do for our community is an even bigger win.” In at least one example of how the funds will be put to use, Morgan’s plans to create accessible music videos to be played while individuals wait for appointments at the all-new Multi-Assistance Center, or the MAC.

One of the tournament’s confirmed attendees is a lifelong diversity and inclusion advocate, Modupe’ R. Congleton, Head of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Worldwide Amazon Stores. Congleton says Amazon is proud to be associated with such an impactful event. “We are always looking for opportunities to support inclusive communities around the world, and Morgan’s Wonderland is just that as the theme park draws domestic and international visitors to experience their accessible rides and playgrounds free of physical and economic barriers,” she says. “Amazon proudly supports people from all backgrounds, including gender, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, and disability and we strive every day to become the most inclusive and accessible employer.”

Amazon’s commitment to disability inclusion is a deeply held belief to build, foster, and grow a workplace culture that is welcoming to people of all backgrounds. This means creating even more opportunities for people with disabilities, innovating how we work and the tools and technologies we use, and empowering our employee community to spark more positive change. As a result, for the fifth year in a row, Amazon was named “Best Places to Work for Disability Inclusion” earning a perfect score from American Association of People with Disabilities and Disability:IN that measures disability workplace inclusion.
